Beyond Cold Press: Why 'Zero Abrasion' is the New Standard for Oil Purity

For decades, the standard advice for choosing healthy cooking oil has been simple: look for “cold pressed.”

This process, which avoids the excessive heat and chemicals of refined oils, has long been the industry benchmark for quality.

However, not all cold-pressed methods are created equal. A new, more advanced technique is setting a higher bar for purity, nutrient retention, and quality: Zero Abrasion Cold Press Technology.

At Theoveda Organique, we believe that for oil to be truly pure, it must be extracted without fighting the machine. This is the guiding principle behind our Zero Abrasion method, which is rapidly becoming the new standard for pristine cold-pressed oils.

What is Zero Abrasion Cold Press Technology?

Zero Abrasion Cold Press Technology is an advanced form of cold pressing where the contact surfaces are carefully chosen using food-grade alloys with special coatings. The machine operates at very low speeds and pressures.

The main goal of this advanced design is twofold:

  1. To preserve nutrients and flavor by avoiding excessive heat generated by friction.
  2. To eliminate microscopic metal particles that result from grinding, scraping, or cutting the seeds.

The Flaw in “Standard” Cold Press

While standard cold pressing is a significant improvement over hot-pressed and refined oils, it still has limitations. In a typical cold press, a rotating screw or pestle crushes the seeds, pushing the oil through small gaps. This design can cause rubbing and scraping, which generates high local heat.

As seen in the comparison below, standard cold press still involves moderate screw and cage wear and has a moderate risk of metal contamination from worn parts. The local heat spikes can also cause it to lose some nutrient and antioxidant levels.

Aspect Zero Abrasion Cold Press Standard Cold Press Refined / Hot-Pressed Oil
Operating temperature Typically < 30°C Low–moderate; can spike locally Very high during roasting/refining
Surface wear / abrasion Minimized via smooth, low-wear parts Moderate screw and cage wear High due to high speed & heat
Nutrient & antioxidant level Very high retention High, but some loss due to local heat Significantly reduced
Metal contamination risk Very low due to minimal wear Moderate from screw/cage wear Moderate–high over long use

The Technical Pillars of Zero Abrasion Purity

The Zero Abrasion process achieves superior purity by implementing key technical features throughout its extraction process:

  1. Low Temperature Extraction: The process runs at low speed, ensuring the oil remains typically below 30°C. This protects delicate antioxidants, vitamins, and essential fatty acids from degradation.
  2. Non-Abrasive Contact Surfaces: Carefully finished food-grade metal parts and smooth surfaces minimize aggressive cutting and grinding, reducing wear and preventing metal particles from entering the oil.
  3. Slow, Steady Pressing: High torque at deliberately low speed releases oil gently, preserving natural flavor and aroma—similar to traditional bull-driven ghanis.
  4. No Solvents, No External Heat: The oil is extracted purely mechanically, making it a true Virgin Oil, with no hexane, caustic soda, or high-temperature refining agents.

Benefits for Unmatched Quality and Health

  • Higher Nutrient Retention: Preserves natural antioxidants, polyphenols, fat-soluble vitamins, and plant sterols.
  • Better Natural Flavor & Aroma: Maintains the original, seed-like taste and fragrance, unlike neutralized refined oils.
  • Lower Risk of Metal Contamination: Reduced machine wear means negligible metal particles entering the final oil.
  • No Chemical Residues: Free from deodorizers, anti-foaming agents, and synthetic antioxidants like TBHQ.

Finally, the purity is preserved right up to bottling through Gravity Settling and Simple Filtration. The oil is allowed to settle naturally in tanks, gently filtered through cloth or mesh filters, and stored hygienically in stainless steel tanks until it reaches your kitchen.

When you choose an oil made with the Zero Abrasion method, you’re not just choosing “cold pressed”, you’re choosing the highest standard of purity, nutrition, and natural flavor.
